A Note to Our Customers-
To address all the well meaning individuals who keep calling us asking for specific info about who owns us and who we donate to- we will say this as clearly as possible: We are a retail store. We are owned by private individuals who are trying to help Israel and who donate a lot of their time, money and efforts. We are NOT run by any religious or political organization or institution.
If you are looking to make a donation- just about every Israeli charity, organization and institution needs your check right now. We do donate all our profits, and more- but it is NOT the goal of our store to donate to charities.
As we say all over our site, our goal is to promote the use of and to enable U.S. customers to buy Israeli goods. We try to reinvest as much as possible back into the Israeli economy- buying more goods from merchants and artists who need our business and who provide jobs to Israeli workers. We are trying to provide a long-term solution to Israeli economic problems.
In our efforts to promote buying Israeli, we offer many incentives when you shop with us- like free gifts and subsidized or free shipping- which costs more every year. Despite very high importing costs, we try to keep our prices affordable and competitive. This is very difficult to do when U.S. consumers are so accustomed to the cheap availability and value of Asian imports. (Unlike our competitors- we do not carry products made by Israeli-owned companies but manufactured in Asia. Everything in our store is 100% made in Israel, to the best of our knowledge, unless you see a disclaimer.)
That translates into more sales, moving more Israeli products, but lower profits. After operating expenses, and purchasing new products- sometimes no profits at all. Most of our customer requests are for food items- which are very low margin. That is why there aren't many companies, other than those who ship directly from Israel at the customer's expense, in this business. Our store is trying to provide a service- but it is not a highly profitable venture.
So buy from us because you want to Buy Israeli to support the Israeli economy, and because you like our selection of wonderful gifts and hard to find, useful items. Do NOT shop with us in lieu of making donations to charity.
To address the "Where does it go?" question- we try to spread it out as much as possible, and to choose charities that need help most and, when possible, that have little or no overhead.
100% of the stores net profits go directly to Israeli-based charities. Once the situation improves (may that be very soon) at least 20% of our profits will continue to be donated to Israeli-based charities. Among those who benefit:
Magen David Adom (Israels Red Cross equivalent)
Zaka Rescue & Recovery (disaster response teams)
Yad Eliezer (food and baby formula donations to Israels needy)
Shaare Zedek Medical Center (in Jerusalem) and others, including:
Hospitals all over Israel
Orphanages (which in Israel also provide meals for at risk children)
Ezrot Avot (meals and assistance to Jerusalem's elderly and homebound)
Organizations assisting Victims of Terror
Many Food Banks and suppliers of grocery coupons to the truly needy
Soup Kitchens, including Hazon Yeshaya in Jerusalem, Or Hatorah VeHateshuva in Netanya and
Ozer Dalim and other Free Loan Associations.
Finally, a note (with all due respect) to the many U.S. organizations, synagogues, churches and schools that call, asking us for sponsorships, donations and large discounts- please don't call. We really appreciate what you do, tizku l'mitzvot- but we choose to direct our limited funds to Israel.
Dear Customers- please take the above info in good faith. We appreciate your business and your efforts to support Israel, and we hope you will appreciate ours. We have no intention of misrepresenting what we do, or being anything other than 100% honest. Thanks for your business!
